We were asked by WEAREMCR to create them a name and masthead for a publication they wanted to produce. Fitting with their Manchester theme but expanding from their Instagram presence, they wanted to create a magazine that showcased photographers based and shooting in the city.
We didn’t want the name to be overtly photography centric, relevant to Manchester, but still different. The name 1853 was inspired by the year in which Manchester gained official ‘city status’. Fitting with the industrial roots in Manchester, a classic sans serif typeface Akzidenz Grotesk was used in the logotype and proposed to be used throughout the publication. Whilst the name and masthead was created, the magazine unfortunately never came to fruition.
